Introducing Small Communities at Christ Church
We believe that small community groups are essential for the life of a flourishing, healthy church and flourishing, healthy disciples. The intentional aim of our small communities is to grow together as disciples as we seek to follow Jesus’ mandate to his first disciples to ‘go and make disciples of all nations’, recognising that, in order to make disciples of all nations, we must first be disciples ourselves.
We strongly encourage all those who consider themselves to be members of Christ Church to be playing an active and committed role in a small communities.
Why Small Communities?
Why join a small community? There are lots of great reasons. Firstly, we believe that they’re the best way to grow as a disciple. Secondly, it’s a great way to get connected and find a home in a church where a large number gather to worship each week. Thirdly, it easier and more fun to do mission together and small communities are a great way to grow in our call to be witnesses as we do evangelism together.
What Small Communities?
At Christ Church we seek to see four shared values influencing the life of our small communities. Each small community will be different depending upon how much they emphasis each of these values but at the heart of each small community will be a shared commitment to these values. Our values reflect some of the key ways in which the Bible tells us we should be growing as disciples because to truly be a disciple of Jesus means growing in both the Word of God and the Holy Spirit, Worship, Family and engaging in Mission.
We recognise that we are all different people, at different stages of our lives and at different stages of our journey with God. As such we have a range of different types of groups available in Christ Church to help each person connect with a small community that is right for them. We have four different types of groups:
Home based Small Communities
These communities meet in people’s homes around the city on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings. Each of these communities has its own style and flavour.
Mission Shaped Communities
MSCs are groups where people are committed to growing as disciples whilst gathering around a specific, shared missional objective. This might be the Arts, social action projects, or a shared heart for a part of the city. We have a growing number of different MSCs based around the city.
These are groups meet in the daytime throughout the week for mum’s to support one another in their discipleship at the stage of having younger children. These groups all have crèche facilities available.
These groups are for women of all ages and stages to grow as disciples. They meet in people’s homes in the daytime throughout the week.
