News from the PCC ... and more!

News from the PCC

The new PCC met for the first time last weekend and spent time listening to God for his desire for Christ Church and thinking about PCC Subgroups and RENEW. We asked newbie Kevin Stone to share his first impressions…

"My first PCC experience was a weekend event held at Christ Church and Holy Trinity in Nailsea. I wasn’t sure what to expect but most of my initial thoughts were fears – fears meetings would be dominated by a few vocal people; fears discussion would be shut down if it wasn’t travelling in the direction the leadership wanted. I also feared I would express myself badly.

We spent quite a lot of time over the weekend listening to God; through the Bible, through worship, through silence, through creation and through each other.

I must confess to feeling a little frustrated at first, discussions were quite tightly framed as were the format of the responses sought.

But, about half way through the Saturday it became apparent that this approach actually seemed to foster quite an orderly transfer of ideas – and certainly from my perspective, by the end, I felt ‘listened to’.

Two things I came away particularly heartened by; the airing of a need to show better care for some in our church family and the identification of a hunger among many to study the Bible more. There were other things that hearted/excited me too but Mark said I only had 200 words!"

This Sunday: Sunrise Prayer and Half Night of Prayer

This Sunday morning, as part of Thy Kingdom Come, we are gathering for prayer at the Clifton Observatory at 5am for Sunrise Prayer over the City. Then after The 5 on Sunday evening we will be having a half night of prayer and worship until 11pm (there will be a short break at the end of the 5 for anyone who needs to leave). Do come and pray.

Coffee Shop Update

We want to give Hannah Bottom, our new Coffee Shop Manager, a few extra hours to develop and market the Coffee Shop so for the time being The Spire will no longer be open on Saturday mornings. The Spire remains open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 1pm.

You won’t want to miss this!

Elles Bailey, a member of the church family at Christ Church, is an amazing singer/songwriter who blends Americana, Blues, Country and Roots. She has just finished a UK wide tour and has a new album coming out soon. We will be hosting Elles’s Bristol Album Launch Party at Christ Church on Saturday 7th October and would love you to be there. You can buy tickets here with an early bird rate available until 30th June. To find out more about Elles and her music check out this video.

Do you love cooking?

The Community Centre which meets on Wednesdays is looking for someone who loves cooking to help provide around 40 meals to some of the older members of our community. You'll be working with two other helpers, on a once a month basis. Could it be you? Please email Nelly to find out more.

Finally … Keep Praying

Thy Kingdom Come is now well underway and it’s been encouraging to see the number of people praying at 7am, noon and 7pm in Jacob’s Well. Do check out www.ccweb.org.uk/tkc for more details of this national call to prayer and keep praying.
