News from the PCC

Hi, I’m Alex.  I’ve been on the PCC since last year and I regularly attend the 10 with my husband and daughter.  I’ve summarised the main points discussed at this month’s 2.5 hour meeting, which was rammed full as usual.

As well as discussing the finances to date and the formation/reshaping of sub-teams we also talked about RENEW, which the ball is now rolling on in a phased approach – next stop the crypt.

Next we discussed the PRAYER life (corporate and private) of Christ Church and where this might be lacking, including poor attendance at regular prayer meetings and possible low confidence in the power of prayer.  Members of the clergy and PCC suggested running formal prayer teaching; gathering testimonies of people with inspirational prayer lives and also tackling specific issues such as how to pray with your young child/teenager.

We talked about the SMALL GROUPS and whether these work to their full capacity.  Some members suggested revising group allocation and raising the profile of home groups – e.g. could groups run specific things or lead elements of services if they wanted.  In particular we discussed the need to find ways to better mix singles, couples and families and also those of different ages.  This led nicely on to a discussion about using more SOCIALS to help us grow closer as a church family.  It was decided that we should learn from groups that do this well, such as the international ministry and also that being inclusive about things happening after church might help, for example posting notices at the info hub of activities already happening, such as I’m going to the cinema if anyone wants to join…

Finally we talked about the (roughly) 45-65 year age group at Christ Church – the boundary for the group gradually rose as more of the PCC wanted to be included in the age bracket!  A few members of the PCC from this age group (and older) mentioned that there may be a need for the church to better empower people in this bracket to utilise their wealth of knowledge and experience in the church, for example in mentoring roles and in activities such as prayer triplets.  They focussed particularly on the need to ask people in this age bracket for their ideas as the PCC is just a small sample.

We could have talked about a whole lot more but it was well after 10pm by this point and there is a law of diminishing returns.
